Day 01 Arrive Delhi
India's glorious capital welcomes you!
The Pearl Luxe representative will greet you warmly upon arrival in Delhi at the Indira Gandhi International Airport with a traditional welcome and transfer you to a pre-booked luxury hotel for the night. Relax and catch up on essential reading on the City of Djinns. Recommended reading includes William Dalrymple's book that goes by the same name and Delhi by Khushwant Singh to get a glimpse into Delhi's magnificent history .
Day 02 Discover Delhi
After a hearty breakfast you will set off to discover nuggets from Delhi's Old City. You start the tour at the the beautiful red sandstone palace fort - The Red Fort, built by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan. Explore its hidden secrets before making way to India's largest mosque, the exquisitely designed Jama Masjid. Feast on local culinary delights in Chandni Chowk or the Moonlit Square. Savor on lip smacking parathas and pakodas. Also shop for colorful glass bangles, traditional clothes and sparkling bindis and trinkets. After a delightful afternoon, leave to pay homage to Mahatma Gandhi at the simple memorial, Raj Ghat. Driving past Lutyens' Delhi, glimpse the seat of power of modern India. Drive by plush colonial style homes, the Presidential Residence - Raj Bhavan, and pay your respects at the eternal flame flickering at the martyr's memorial at India Gate. A visit to Delhi is incomplete without enjoying the pleasures of a lush, scented Mughal Garden. At the UNESCO World Heritage Site Humayun's Tomb, a mausoleum, witness the beauty of this timeless city.
Day 03 Leave from Delhi for Jaipur (257 kms / 5 hour drive)
Soon after breakfast you will leave for the capital city of Rajasthan - Jaipur. Enjoy the rugged landscape en route to the Pink City. On arrival, you check into a luxury hotel and relax, before setting off to explore Jaipur with a half-day city tour. Peek out of one of the 953 pink sandstone jharokhas or windows at the iconic, 5-storied Palace of Winds, or Hawa Mahal, the first stop on the tour. Visit the breathtaking City Palace Museum to marvel precious Pashmina shawls, exquisite saris, and the impressive collection of bejeweled Rajput Weaponry that dates back to the 15th century. Fancy a little star gazing? The Royal observatory, Jantar Mantar, will leave you spell bound. End the evening enveloped with colors, watching a traditional folk dance and sampling, rich local cuisine.
Day 04 Discover Jaipur
The day starts with a swaying ride on a beautifully adorned elephant, ambling over a short stretch of road, right to the romanticAmer Palace. The alluring citadel has delicately carved interiors, which are encrusted with precious stones and mirrors. After espying the pomp and pageantry of the erstwhile rulers, it is time to meet the warrior kings! The valiance of the Rajput warriors comes alive at the Jaigarh Fort, the second stop on the itinerary for the day. The imposing Victory Fort is set on a hilltop and towers over the city. Its military significance is clearly visible at the Jai Ban - the world's largest cannon on wheels. Our stay at Jaipur comes to an end.
Day 05 From Jaipur leave for Agra (245 kms / 5 hrs drive)
Post an enjoyable breakfast, depart for the city of Agra, renowned world over for the symbol of Love - the glorious Taj Mahal. Before that we stop on the way to take a look at another labour of love, the ghost city of Fatehpur Sikri, built by Emperor Akbar. On arriving in Agra the capital of Uttar Pradesh, relax in the hotel before the city tour. Visit the breathtaking Taj Mahal in all its glory. Its delicate carvings and stunning pietra dura work was the craftsmanship of 20,000 workers over two decades! End the wonderful day at the massive Agra Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, built by Emperor Akbar, one of the finest fortresses built in the sub-continent.
Day 06 From Agra depart for Jhansi en route to Orchha. Discover Orchha
Leave early morning for a short journey on the life line of India: the railways. From the Agra Railway Station depart at 8AM to arrive at the city of Jhansi, famous for the valiant Queen Lakshmi Bai, at 11AM. From Jhansi leave by road for the hamlet of Orchha. Built by the Bundela Rajput chieftain, Rudra Pratap, from afar you can see its towering spires and beautiful chattris or umbrellas. Lose yourself in the breathtaking temple complex and fortress. Did you know the only temple in India where Lord Ram is worshipped as a King, the Ram Raja Temple, is found here? Explore the ornamental gardens, the rich trellis work, and the exquisite ornamentation. Check into a beautiful heritage hotel for the remainder of the stay in Orchha.
Day 07 From Orchha leave for Khajuraho (178 kms / 4 hrs)
Leave for Khajuraho after breakfast. The revered temple complex was built under the patronage of the Chandela Rajput Kings. Legend goes that the creators of Khajuraho were descendants of the moon dynasty. The erotic sculptures are juxtaposed with mundane images of courtly life in the 10th and 11th century. Out of the 85 temples built, only 22 survive. After a breath taking tour of the eastern temples, retire to the hotel for the night.
Day 08 From Khajuraho depart for Varanasi
We complete our visit to the sprawling temple complex today and bid goodbye to glorious Khajuraho. A short flight away is Varanasi, or Kashi, one of the oldest cities in the world. Created by Lord Shiva, the destroyer in the Hindu Holy Trinity, Varanasi's sights, sounds and color intoxicate a traveller. Lose yourself in its labyrinthine streets that are flanked by the Ghats and the holy River Ganges. Wander through tiny alleyways discovering shops selling exquisite muslin, silk fabrics, perfume and sculptures.
Day 09 Discover Varanasi
Early morning the city is aglow under the rays of the rising sun. The perfume of incense and camphor fill the air. Take a boat ride down the mystical Ganges, witnessing the early morning prayers taking place on the Ghats. After breakfast make your way to offer salutations to the Gods. Spend the day experiencing the bustling city speckled with ancient temples. Visit the glorious Golden Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva and the Durga Temple, dedicated to the goddess Durga. A center of arts and literature also, visit the famed Benaras Hindu University that has trained many a great minds over the centuries.
Day 10 Depart from Varanasi for Delhi
After breakfast, bid a warm farewell to the unforgettable City of Lights for Delhi either via flight or by train. On arrival in Delhi, thePearl Luxe representative will assist in your check-in into a pre-booked luxury hotel for the night. Enjoy your free moments in Delhi's warm Darbar.
Day 11 Depart from Delhi
